Illinois Rhythmic Gymnastics, a well established Northshore gymnastics center, was started by Irina Vdovets in 1988 and it quickly produced one of the top teams in the United States. Vdovets has produced more members and qualifiers for the United States National Olympics teams than any other school in the nation. Known for its high standards in rhythmic gymnastics training, the center attracts students from all over the U.S. We offer programs for all ages and all levels.

Additionally, our highly qualified coaching staff has been carefully selected for their impeccable skills and their unique approach to children. All of our coaches are former champion rhythmic gymnasts and college graduates, blending their own competitive experience with personal achievements to create a unique learning experience for each and every student. Currently we have state and regional champions at various levels. With the addition of more coaching staff we have the knowledge and expertise to produce a new generation of champions and future Olympians as we build on the foundations of a young team.

Blending the physical challenge of floor exercise with dramatic choreography- equal parts dance and art- this competitive Olympic sport is one of the most fascinating to watch. No other sport so eloquently combines the beauty and grace of dance with the agility and dexterity of gymnastic movement, set to music. Using such apparatus as a ribbon, rope, ball, hoop and clubs, rhythmic gymnasts perform dramatic routines by deftly throwing and catching these items as they leap, twirl and twist through the air. Through the fluidity of movement the gymnasts give the illusion that the apparatus is actually connected to the body, stressing their flexibility, gracefulness, coordination and creativity. So unique in style, it is the only Olympic event that uses hand apparatus in a dance-oriented gymnastic routine.

IRGC will be offering classes at the conveniently located Karger Recreational Center at 1850 Green Bay Road, in the heart of Highland Park, beginning September 2011. Our new gymnastics gym offers a spacious work out area and vaulted ceilings to accommodate the high tosses necessary for the more advanced skills and manipulation of the hand apparatus.
